China announced last month a new plan to tighten food safety regulations and consolidate conflicting regulations over the next five years. This follows recent food safety scandals in the country, including baby formula found tainted with mercury. Details are on the ONLINE page.

The European Parliament’s rejection of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) has affected many industries in Europe, including alcoholic beverages. Take Scotch Whisky, for instance: the industry has been fighting counterfeit Scotch Whisky for years. Finland opened a  new waste-to-energy CHP plant this summer that uses clean biogas as its fuel.
